Sometimes you only need medical equipment temporarily, such as transitioning from a facility back home. Dougherty’s offers rental equipment for daily, weekly, and monthly rates. However, there are strict guidelines that must be followed in order to benefit from your Medicare coverage when renting.
In order to rent any medical equipment through Medicare, a written prescription by your treating doctor stating medical necessity is required. Similar to a non-assignment claim, the rental fee must be paid in full each month, then the paperwork and claims are submitted to Medicare for patient reimbursement. In short, you pay Dougherty’s then Medicare pays you back. Dougherty’s also offers the ‘13-month capped rental’. After 13 months of payments on rented equipment, the rental is converted to a purchase and you have the option to keep the equipment as is or exchange it for a brand new product. Afterwards, it is in Medicare’s hands to ensure you are reimbursed the proper amount.

All equipment rented through Medicare must be rented for at least one full month in order to receive reimbursement benefits. Any rental less than 30 days is ineligible for reimbursement.
All other medical equipment must be purchased as a non-assignment claim to qualify for Medicare reimbursement.
